Mr. Myron Odell Barr, age 83, a resident of 1606 Gray Road, Chocowinity, NC died Sunday June 8, 2008 at the Beaufort County Hospital in Washington, NC.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday June 10, 2008 at Haw Branch Church of Christ officiated by D.J. Maxey. Burial will follow in Haw Branch Church of Christ Cemetery. Rod Gurganus, Don Hill, Jamie Stokes, Gray Clark, Ray Barr and Philip Grissom will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Barr was born in Beaufort County on October 3, 1924 son of the late Sydney Eli Barr and the late Essie Hill Barr. He attended Chocowinity High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Barr married the former Kathleen Hill on April 14, 1944 who survives. He was a self-employed commercial fisherman and farmer. Following his retirement he was known for his vege-tables and sweet potatoes that he enjoyed growing. He was a member of Haw Branch Church of Christ.
Surviving along with his wife of the home is a son: Myron Jerome Barr and his wife Carol of Chocowinity; a daughter: Diane Hamrick and her husband Ed of Chocowinity; a brother: Franklin Jones of Chocowinity; a sister: Mary Elizabeth “Sis” Barr of Chocowinity; seven grandchildren: Kim Smith, Wayne Wilkinson, Tony Wilkinson, Dee Dee Anderson, Brad Barr, Crystal Campbell and Angie Barr; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Barr was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard Jones and Edward Earl Barr and a sister: Hazel Bright.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday June 9, 2008 at Haw Branch Church of Christ and at other times at the home of Mr. Barr’s granddaughter: Kim Smith located at 119 Diggie Do Drive, off of Langley Road, Chocowinity, NC.
Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks that any memorial contributions be made to Haw Branch Church of Christ, Building Fund, 1501 Haw Branch Church Road, Chocowinity, NC 27817.
