Mary Paige Pledger Elks, 53, of 1970 N.C. Highway 94, Columbia, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Columbia, March 17, 1955, she was the daughter of Dennis M. Pledger, Jr. and the late Mary Lou Knight Pledger. She graduated from Columbia High School and East Carolina University where she earned a B. S. degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the public schools in Roanoke Rapids and at Enfield Academy in Whitakers, N.C. after which she became a homemaker to rear her daughters. She was a member of Columbia Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her father are three daughters, Courtney Ford of Greenville, Leanne Ford of Greenville and Shannon Ford of Chocowinity; a sister, Janice P. Tomlinson of Greenville; nephews, Aaron Brunair and Dennis Michael, Leaha and Meika Brunair (her great niece).
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Columbia Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Jeff Crabtree and Rev. Bobby Armstrong will officiate. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening at Columbia Missionary Baptist Church, corner of Bridge and N. Road Streets, Columbia from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and other times at the Combs residence, 107 N. Broad St. Columbia.
