Mr. Henry Lee Carawan Sr. of Concord died Thursday, July 10, 2008.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:15 p.m. Saturday in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Carawan was born in Pamlico County on Sept. 14, 1926. He was the son of the late Henry B. and Janie Moran Carawan. He was raised in Washington. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. In 1950, he graduated from N.C. State University and moved to Concord to begin teaching at Piedmont Junior High in Charlotte. He was married to Lunia Elizabeth Betty Carawan, who preceded him in death. He was a Mason. He attended Charity Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Frances M. Carawan; two sons, Lee Carawan of Concord, and Kit Carawan of Kannapolis; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.
