Mr. Marvin L. Bowman, age 57, died July 2, 2008 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Daryl Evans.
Mr. Bowman was born on October 8, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Missouri at St. Louis in 1972. Mr. Bowman served in the U.S. Navy on the USS California, a guided missile cruiser, stationed at Norfolk, Va., the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. He was trained in nuclear schools as an electrician.
Aside from his interest in science, which led to his field of self-employment as a liaison between utility companies and nuclear power plants, Marvin was an active member of the Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh. He was a collector of glass and paintings. His interest in Beaufort County were weekend respites from the ship, USS California, while stationed at Norfolk, Va., where he mused “nothing here was painted battleship gray!”
Marvin is survived by his mother, Esther Taylor Bowman and his sister, Ellen Bowman Ratcliffe, both of Blounts Creek, N.C., two sisters-in-law, Madeline Costa Bowman and Sandra Gibson; nieces and nephews: Joye, Michelle, Kathy, Stephanie and Richard, Jennifer, David, Renee, Alex, Nick and Richard. He was preceded in death by his father, Louie E. Bowman; two brothers, Paul Bowman and Steve Bowman and one nephew, Mark Bowman.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
