The Rev. Allen James Ball, 86, of La Grange, entered into Heaven, Thursday, July 10, 2008.
The Rev. Ball was born in Duplin County to the late David James Ball, Sr. and Blanche Edwards Ball. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joshua Bradley Carter; sister, Nannie Mae Ball; and two brothers, D.J. Ball and B.C. Ball.
The Rev. Ball served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was country music disc-jockey for many years. He worked with WHED, WITN, WOOW and WEEW, as well as serving as emcee for Jay Ball’s Gospel Favorites on WITN-TV in Washington, N.C.
The Rev. Ball was an ordained minister in the Church of God where most of his ministry was spent evangelizing. He pastored the Angier Church of God for a brief period and started the Deep Run Church of God. Rev. Ball was a member of La Grange Church of God and was an accomplished guitarist/song writer.
A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, July 13, 2008, at 5 p.m. from La Grange Church Of God. Committal services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from Pinelawn Memorial Park.
The Rev. Ball is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Frances Powell Ball; two sons, Allen Ball of La Grange and Rev. Arnold Ball and wife, Judy, of La Grange; two daughters, Carolyn Ball of La Grange and Carlene Nguyen and husband, Hung, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michelle Carter, Brandon Nguyen, Michael Ball, Ryan Nguyen and Melissa Ball; six great-grandchildren, Brody Carter, Channing Carter, Landon Carter, Alyana Carter, Hannah Ball and Parker Ball; step great-grandchild, Jordan Minshew.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service of remembrance and at other times they will be at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Arnold Ball, 4760 Castelloe Drive, La Grange.
