Brad Roach is down, but not out.
The former star with the Williamston Tigers and Catawba Indians, where he earned All-America honors following his senior season, was released by the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday.
The 6-6, 250-pound free-agent quarterback was the odd man out as the Ravens chose to keep three quarterbacks for now — 2008 first-round pick Joe Flacco, veteran Kyle Boller and Troy Smith.
Roach said the coaches told him it basically came down to a numbers-game, but that didn’t soften the blow.
Roach, who completed 608 of 1,099 passes (55.3 percent) for 7,874 yards and 62 touchdown passes in his college career, was hoping to land a roster spot with the Ravens. However, injuries forced Baltimore to go in a different direction.
Roach is back home in Washington and is awaiting a phone call from his agent, who is working the phones to find Roach another team.
Roach won’t be sitting around waiting for a call.
With teams opening up camp this week, Roach is hoping to land with a new team as quickly as possible.
Despite being cut, Roach didn’t hold any ill feelings against the team that took a chance on him.
Roach may be hurting a bit inside, but he hasn’t any confidence.
