North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies worked in tandem early Wednesday evening to stop a stolen Ford Explorer and detained its eight occupants.
The traffic stop was on Whichard’s Beach Road at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Of the eight people detained, six are men and two are women. All are black.
Sheriff’s deputies found a 40-caliber, Beretta semi-automatic handgun in the stolen vehicle, Jordan said.
The suspects were taken before the magistrate at the Beaufort County Courthouse in Washington. Then, they were transported to Craven County where they were wanted by the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspects will probably face stolen vehicle charges and weapons charges in Beaufort County, Jordan said.
