Mrs. Cora Barnes of 708 Runyon Road, Washington, died Monday, July 28, 2008, at Britthaven of Washington.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Spring Garden Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E.R. McNair officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Barnes was born Sept. 14, 1924, the daughter of the late Peter and Cynthia E. Guilford Battle. She was a graduate of P.S. Jones High School. She was married to William C. Barnes, who preceded her in death. She was a member of Spring Garden Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Progressive Club and senior choir.
Survivors include four daughters, Menville Miller and Cynthia Spencer of Washington, Michele Jones of Kinston and Mary Spencer of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Hilton Battle of Washington and Robert Little of San Francisco, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Barnes and brothers, Peter, Jr., James, Edmond and Josephus Battle.
The family will receive friends today from 2-8 p.m. at Leon Randolph Funeral Home, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, and other times at the home.
