Mr. George Edison Braswell, age 84, a resident of 168 Washington Harbor and a former resident of Virginia Beach, VA and Bath, NC died Friday August 1, 2008 at his home.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday August 3, 2008 at St. Clair’s Church of Christ officiated by Craig Hagen. Burial will follow in St. Clair’s Church Cemetery.
Mr. Braswell was born in Beaufort County on December 30, 1923 son of the late Charlie Newberry Braswell and the late Bessie Ross Braswell. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Mr. Braswell married the former Vivian Elsie McCullough on September 1, 1951 who preceded him in death on November 30, 2000. He later married Jennette Harris Woolard on March 3, 2001 who survives. Mr. Braswell was a retired self employed building contractor having worked in the Tidewater area of Virginia and the Beaufort County area. He was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge # 196 and the Scottish Rite.
Surviving along with his wife Jennette Braswell of the home is a daughter: Pamela Sue Batten and her husband George of Palm Coast, FL; a son: David Paul Braswell and his wife Cheryl of Bath; three step daughters: Kathy Bowen and her husband Frankie of Plymouth, Debra Fraley and her husband Michael of Blounts Creek and Karen Heffley and her husband Kenneth of Bath; two step sons: Wayne Woolard and his wife Kay of Washington and Dale Woolard and his wife Jeannie of Bath; two sisters: Norma Carawan of Grimesland and Evon O’Brien of Virginia Beach, VA; a niece: Evelyn Cutler of Washington; two grandchildren: Eric Paul Braswell and his wife Stephanie and Katie Batten; three great grandchildren: Travis Paul Braswell, Ashton Rae Braswell and Lance Hayden Smith; five step grandchildren: Stephanie Kelly, Cynthia Brand, Mandy Hedgepath, Cameron Waters and Mathew Woolard and four step great grandchildren: Lindsay and McKenna Brand, Ava Grace Hedgepath and Kiera Kelly. Mr. Braswell was preceded in death by a sister: Lucy B. Page; and two grandchildren: Cindy Faye Braswell and Julia B. Jones.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday August 2, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
