Mrs. Gloria Jean Matthews Daughton, 65, of 203 Juniper Drive, Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Pamlico Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Selby Smith officiating.
Mrs. Daughton was born in Martin County on Aug. 2, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Jasper and Letha Goldie Bland Matthews. On Jan. 15, 1988, she married Robert Dennis Daughton, who survives. She was employed in the medical field as a nurse’s aide. She attended Love Baptist Church.
Survivors include seven daughters, Debra Jean Cheesman of Farmville, Rita Truelove of Washington, Sherry Whitfield of Pinetops, Jennifer Holly of Bear Grass, Romie Wiggins of Bunn, Roeaster Rogers of Chocowinity and Vivian Hester of the home; two sons, Ricky Rogers II of Michigan and Robert Daughton Jr. of Ayden; three brothers, James Earl Matthews of Hobgood, Gene Matthews of Hassell and Clifton Matthews of the home; two sisters, Brenda Edwards of Gold Point and Katie Spain of Greenville; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Rogers I; two brothers, Dallas Matthews and Larry Matthews and three sisters, Doris Carson, Linda Keel and Goldie Matthews.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home, Washington.
