Mrs. Erma Sawyer Meekins, 96, of Columbia died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Glen Burnie, Md.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell. Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Meekins was born in Tyrrell County, the daughter of the late Charles Z. and May Jones Sawyer. She was married to Henry H. Meekins, who preceded her in death. She was a retired sales consultant with the Center Shops and Rices. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis M. Winters of Appomattox, Va., and Dana M. Dewess of Severna Park, Md.; one son, James H. Meekins of Grant, Ala.; two sisters, Violet S. Liverman of Columbia and Carolyn Funk of Fallon, Nev.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynanne M. Floyd; one son, H. Dudley Meekins; two sisters, Lillian S. Mann and Hazel S. Dickinson and two brothers, Sherrill Sawyer and Carroll Sawyer.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1-2:30 p.m. at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell and other times at the home.
