Mr. Emmitt Edward Murray, 82, of 24941 U.S. Highway 264 East, Swan Quarter, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Cross Creek Health Care.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Lydia Missionary Baptist Church, Swan Quarter, with the Rev. Robert Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Murray was born in Hyde County on Sept. 1, 1925. He was the son of the late Rosa and Sam Murray Sr. He attended the Hyde County Schools. He was a member of St. Lydia Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was an active participant of the Hyde County Missionary Baptist Association.
Survivors include one brother, Armlee Murray of New York; one sister, Elizabeth A. Spruill of New York; three surrogate sisters, Beadie Spencer of Yanceyville and Annie Howard and Della Spencer, both of Swan Quarter; and one surrogate brother, James Shelton of Swan Quarter.
The family will receive friends at the home of her surrogate sister, Della Spencer, 29 St. Lydia Road, Swan Quarter.
