TARBORO — Nothing seemed to go right for Washington as the Pam Pack got their bells rung by the Tarboro Vikings in the annual Victory Bell Bowl.
Tarboro rumbled for 349 yards on the ground en route to a 35-0 win over the Pam Pack on Friday night. It was the first time Washington (1-1) had been shutout since a 24-0 loss to Hertford County on Sept. 4, 2006.
Quarterback Jeremy Bellamy ran for 146 yards on just eight carries to lead the Vikings (2-0), who have outscored their opponents 85-7 in two games. He scored on runs of 58, 56 and 7 yards.
Tailback Damarius Harper added 103 yards rushing and a pair of scores on 12 carries, while fullback Jamal Farmer added 89 yards on 19 totes.
Pam Pack quarterback Austin Thompson put up some decent numbers, hitting 19 of 26 passes for 172 yards. However, he couldn’t lead the Pack into the end zone.
Washington has now gone six quarters without scoring an offensive touchdown.
Tarboro took advantage of a roughing-the-punter penalty by Washington to score its first touchdown. After the miscue, Bellamy broke off a 56-yard scoring jaunt.
On Washington’s next series, Thompson was walloped after a breakdown in the running game. The senior fumbled the ball and Tarboro pounced on it. One play later, Harper scampered 21 yards to the end zone, giving the Vikings a 14-0 lead.
The Pack got as close as the Tarboro 6-yard line, set up by Mike Moore’s 42-yard reception off a screen. However, Thompson was sacked on fourth down to end the drive.
Bellamy’s 56-yard romp late in the third gave the Vikings a 21-0 lead.
Harper’s 11-yard run early in the fourth made it 28-0, while Bellamy’s 7-yard burst late in the fourth capped it.
Tony Turnage, who saw a 49-yard touchdown run get wiped out by a penalty, led the Pam Pack’s ground attack with 65 yards on seven carries.
Dakuan Spencer snagged seven receptions for 54 yards, Moore hauled in six passes for 72 yards and Michael Godley finished with three catches for 22 yards.
The Pack will be back in action Friday when it plays host to the Northside Panthers (1-0), who will play North Duplin on Monday night.
