Mrs. Hazel Bennett Jones, 93, a former resident of 3358 Mary’s Chapel Church Road, Aurora, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Britthaven of Pamlico in Grantsboro.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cuthrell Cemetery, White Hill community, Aurora, conducted by Dr. Grady Tucker.
Frankie Day, Lawrence Swain, Carl Cayton, Charles Bennett, Gary Jordan and Joe Bennett will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Jones was born in Beaufort County on Dec. 12, 1914. She was the daughter of the late Otis C. Bennett Sr. and Elsie Smithwick Bennett. Mrs. Jones was a retired custodian with Bangert Elementary School in New Bern. She was a member of the White Hill Free Will Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Jones was married to Frank Jones, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1984.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy J. Cayton of the home; one brother, O.C. Bennett Jr. of Aurora; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Olga Day.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3358 Mary’s Chapel Church Road, Aurora.
