C.J. Wilson played a monstrous game for the No. 14 East Carolina Pirates in Saturday’s 28-24 win over Tulane.
Wilson, a junior defensive end, led the Pirates with eight tackles. He had three tackles-for-loss netting seven yards, including a sack for a five-yard loss.
The former Northside High School star also blocked a field goal, which Quentin Cotton returned for a touchdown. It was the third blocked field goal or PAT for Wilson in his career.
For the season, Wilson has 16 tackles, five tackles-for-loss (for 17 yards), 2.5 sacks, one quarterback hurry and one blocked kick.
The Pirates (3-0, 1-0 C-USA) return to action Saturday at N.C. State. The game will start at noon.
Clemmons sees
game action
Jamaine Clemmons saw game action for the third straight game in North Carolina State’s 27-9 loss to Clemson on Saturday.
Clemmons, a former standout at Williamston High School, has not been credited with a tackle yet this season. The defensive end wears No. 90 for the Wolfpack.
N.C. State (1-2, 0-1 ACC) plays host to No. 14 East Carolina at noon on Saturday.
Goddard gets six tackles
Trimane Goddard had a solid day to help the North Carolina Tar Heels knock off Rutgers, 44-12, on Saturday.
The former Roanoke High School star had six tackles and one pass break-up in the win.
Goddard has eight tackles, one interception and one pass break-up on the season.
The Heels (2-0) play host to Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Marable has big day
Jeremiah Marable had a big day for the Elizabeth City Vikings in Saturday’s 32-30 loss to Tusculum.
The former Southside High School star blocked a punt, recovered and returned a fumble 27 yards and finished with six tackes. Marable also returned one punt for nine yards.
On the season, Marablehas 12 tackles, a fumble recovery, a blocked punt, a blocked punt return that went for a touchown and the punt return for nine yards.
The Vikings (1-2) travel to Wingate on Saturday.
Hyman shines again
Kenneth Hyman, a former standout with the Roanoke Redskins, came up with his second interception in as many games as the Guilford Quakers beat Methodist, 34-33, on Saturday.
The freshman for Guilford College, who started at cornerback, returned the interception 12 yards. Hyman also had seven tackles and two pass break-ups.
For the season, Hyman has 10 tackles, two interceptions, two pass break-ups and four pass deflections.
The Quakers (2-0) play at Averett on Saturday.
Daniels has quiet day
Travis Daniels didn’t put up any stats for UNC-Pembroke in Saturday’s 23-16 loss to Wingate.
The freshman, a former standout at Washington High School, has rushed for 21 yards on six carries. He’s caught two passes for 32 yards.
The Braves (2-1) play host to Jacksonville on Saturday.
Jones gets takedown
Jamont Jones had one tackle for Lenoir-Rhyne in Saturday’s 20-16 setback to Davidson.
The former Washington Pam Pack standout, a freshman with the Bears, has played in three games. Jones has one interception, two tackles and one punt return that was good for eight yards.
The Bears (2-1) play at Benedict College on Saturday.
Palmer nets two tackles
Greg Palmer came up with two tackles for the Chowan Hawks in Saturday’s 23-20 win over Brevard.
The former Northside High School standout has eight tackles in three games.
Chowan (1-2) plays at Virginia Military Institute on Saturday.
Cahoon, Rodgers play for Bishops
Micke’l Cahoon recorded one tackle for the North Carolina Wesleyan Bishops in Saturday’s 7-6 loss to Widener.
Cahoon is a former standout at Creswell High School.
Nigel Rodgers, a former standout at Washington High School, started the game at defensive back, but did not record any stats in the game. Rodgers has seven tackles and one pass break-up on the season.
Wesleyan (0-2) plays host to Emory &Henry College on Saturday.
Prescott getting playing time
Freshman Blaine Prescott has been getting some playing time for the Lees-McRae Bobcats soccer team.
The former Washington High School star has played in all five games, while starting one them.
Prescott has attempted two shots on goal for Lees-McRae (5-0).
The Bobcats, coming off a 2-1 win over St. Andrews, play host to Converse College on Wednesday.
Crompton in goal
Ashley Crompton has made one appearance on the field for the Mount Olive Trojans soccer team.
Crompton, a former standout at Washington High School, has not recorded any statistics. She made her college debut in a 9-1 loss to Tusculum.
The Trojans (0-4) play at Pfeiffer on Monday.
Locals on Pitt volleyball
A few former area athletes are playing for the Pitt Community College volleyball team.
Michelle Bracey, a former standout at Williamston High School, has 23 kills, 22 blocks and eight digs.
Augusta Johnston, a former standout at Southside High School, has three kills, three blocks and one dig.
Lauren O’Neal, also a former standout at Williamston, has 10 blocks, six kills, two digs and one ace.
Pitt (4-3) plays at Wake Technical Community College on Tuesday.
