Mr. John A. “Johnny” Johnston, Jr., age 69, a resident of 547 Island View Road, Bath, NC died Sunday September 14, 2008 at the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven, NC.
A funeral service will be held 4:30 p.m. Tuesday September 16, 2008 at St. Clair’s Church of Christ officiated by Craig Hagen. Burial will follow in St. Clair’s Church of Christ Cemetery. Adrian Carter, Melvin Fulcher, Salatiel Arias, Lil John, Francisco Lopez and Joe Testino will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of St. Clair’s Church of Christ and members of Sidney Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Johnny was born in Beaufort County on February 27, 1939 son of the late John Arthur Johnston, Sr. and the late Corva Herrington Johnston Smith. He was a 1957 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School. Mr. Johnny married the former Sally H. Braddy on November 27, 1960 who survives. He was owner/operator of John A. Johnston and Son Construction, a member of Sidney Volunteer Fire Department, a member of St. Clair’s hunting club, a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon.
Surviving along with Mr. Johnny’s wife Sally of the home is a daughter: Anita J. Testino, her husband Joe and their children Lauren and John Anthony of Wilson; a daughter: Nancy J. Lilley of Washington and a son: John A. Johnston, III of Belhaven.
The family will receive friends following the service at St. Clair’s Church of Christ and at other times at the home.
