Davey Ann Burbage seemed to be in the right spot every time. The senior was near flawless at the net during Tuesday’s Coastal Conference tennis match against South Central.
Playing inspired, Burbage won both her singles and doubles matches to help lead the Pam Pack to a 7-2 victory over the Falcons.
Burbage knocked off Hannah Hines, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. She then teamed with Shannon Niederhauser at No. 3 doubles, as they took down Keely Johanson and Amanda Keating, 8-4.
The victory came on the heels of a shutout loss to 4A powerhouse J.H. Rose a day earlier.
Burbage and Janie Page, who also won her singles and doubles matches, drew praise from co-head coach Michelle Elks. Page posted a 6-4, 6-0 nod over Johanson at No. 5 singles, then teamed with Mary Potocki at No. 2 doubles to beat Gretchen Diffenbaugh and Hines, 8-2.
Potocki and Niederhauser also came away with two wins on the afternoon. Potocki defeated Diffenbaugh, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Niederhauser took down Keating, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
Washington’s other win came from Hayley Stowe at No. 2 singles as the junior posted a 6-2, 6-1 nod over Molly Hostetler.
Elks said the team has made great strides since the beginning of the season.
Burbage believes coaching, which also comes from co-head coach Beth Pippin, and extra work on the court has paid off well.”
Washington is scheduled to play at West Craven on Thursday. The Pack returns home Monday against Williamston in a non-conference match, before returning to conference play Tuesday at J.H. Rose.
