Our beloved Emma Wahab Spencer Simpkins, 89, of Wilson heard God’s call to “Come up Higher,” September 19, 2008 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N.C. Emma, the youngest daughter of the late James H. and Eliza B. Wahab, was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. T. Macon Spencer and Ed Simpkins, and sisters, Melvina Williams and Muriel Newman. Married to Macon for 42 years, she served God faithfully as she labored with him in numerous pastorates in eastern North Carolina. A well-loved preacher’s wife, she was well known for her deep faith, warm wit, gentle spirit and good biscuits. Her sweet, loving spirit touched the lives of many people and she will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Raleigh. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Soule Cemetery near Swan Quarter, N.C. The Rev. Jerry Nelson, Rev. Eugene Powers, and Rev. David Butts will officiate.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: two daughters, Judy Gibson of Wilson and Lou Spencer of Black Mountain N.C.; two sons: Jim Spencer and wife Joanne of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bob Spencer and wife Sharon of Wilmington; four grandchildren: Rusty Spencer and wife Carmen, Mischelle Spencer, Melinda Faulk and husband Dennis and Ginny Munichman and husband Max; four great grandchildren: Garrett and Sophia Spencer, Lindsey Faulk and Marc Munichman; a sister, Isabelle Goolsby of Suffolk, Va.; a son-in-law, Wayne Gibson and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express gratitude to wonderful friends for your visits, calls, cards, and prayers, and to the staff of Elizabeth House for warmth and compassion during her last days.
The family will receive friends 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home at other times the family will be at 3303 Blenheim Place.
In lieu of flowers , memorials may be made in her memory to Elizabeth House, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731 or Westmoreland Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2409 W. Nash Street, Wilson N.C. 27896.
