Willie Murl Cox Bonner, 95, of 16589 U.S. Highway 264, Swan Quarter died Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Cross Creek Health Care Center where she had been a recent patient.
Born in Sladesville, September 28, 1912, she was the daughter of the late William David and Ida Gibbs Cox. She was married to Murray K. Bonner who preceded her in death in 1954. She graduated from Swan Quarter High School in 1929 and attended Raleigh School of Commerce and later worked at Mattison Advertising Company in Raleigh in 1931. Since it was during the Depression, she worked wherever she could find employment with attorneys, Superintendent of Schools, between 1935 and 1945 she worked with Farm Security Administration which is now Farmer’s Home Administration. In 1952 she began work with The East Carolina Bank where she worked for 21 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Soule United Methodist Church for 90 years where she served in the Ladies’ Aide, the United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday School classes for more than 40 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Soule United Methodist Church. Pastor J. H. Daniels and Steve Bryan will officiate. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Bonner Burleson and her husband, Jerry; two grandsons, Jason Burleson and his wife, Connie and John McCray Burleson all of Swan Quarter; a sister-in-law, Mable Cox of Swan Quarter; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were David Cox, Oswald Cox, Curtis Cox, Dell Cox Berry, Myra Louise Cox, Malcolm Cox, Stacy Cox and Edna Earle Cox.

The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and other times at her home.
