Mr. William “Bill” Eugene Freeman Anderson Jr., 75, of 200 W. 16th St., Washington died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in St. John Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington with the Rev. William F. Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.
Mr. Anderson was born in St. Louis, Mo., on July 20, 1933. He was the son of the late Lucinda Woodson Anderson and William Eugene Freeman Anderson Sr. He was a graduate of McBride High School in St. Louis, Mo. He did further studies at East Carolina University in Greenville where he completed requirements for his associate degree in general business. He was a member of the Marine Corps and retired as a master sergeant. He was first married to Martha Anderson, who preceded him in death. On July 10, 1991, he married Sylvia Peele, who survives. He had worked as a car salesman in Havelock and retired from Hamilton Beach Company and Wal-Mart of Washington. He was a member of Hiram Lodge No. 11, Washington. He was a former member of the Washington City Schools Board of Education and the minority advisory committee for Washington City Schools. He was a member of St. John Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Washington.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Tipton of St. Louis, Mo., and Lorine A. Thompson of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one stepdaughter, Delma “Cookie” Sawyer of Raleigh; one son, Kimo Anderson of Johnson City, Tenn.; two stepsons, Benji Reddick and Almer King Reddick, both of Washington; two sisters, Linda Anderson Brandon of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Ernestine Anderson of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Nathaniel Anderson of Long Beach, Calif., and John Wayman Anderson of Friendswood, Texas; four grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Anderson.
The family will receive friends at the home.
