Rev. Eldridge Thomas “Tommy” Glover, Jr., 63, of 7416 Sladesville/Credle Road, Scranton, died Monday afternoon, October 6, 2008, at Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Colerain, N. C. on August 8, 1945, he was the son of the late Eldridge T. and Clarine Brown Glover. He was married to the former Joanne Maddrey who survives.
He served in the North Carolina National Guard for six years. Rev. Glover answered the call to the ministry while working with Glover Construction Company. He later graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Galatia Baptist Church near Seaboard. He later served the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church for 20 and one-half years. He was instrumental in organizing and supporting the former Churches United Crisis Closet which helped many families in Hyde County. He later served the Margarettsville Baptist Church for 5 and one-half years. In addition to his ministry he continued to operate Glover and Son Roofing Company which he founded some years ago. He loved sports and played men’s softball until he was 47 years old, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral Services will be held at Margarettsville Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Rev. John Rowland, Rev. Jimmie Cox and Rev. Steve Trussell will officiate. Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at the Sladesville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The Deacons of Margarettsville Baptist Church and Sladesville Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Billy Thomas Glover and his wife, Christal; a daughter, Deborah G. Thomas and her husband, Danny; a brother, Steven Glover of Roanoke Rapids; a sister, Bonnie G. Little of Seaboard; grandchildren, Daniel Thomas, Dane Thomas, Mary Glover, Jullian Glover and Matthew Guthrie.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and on Thursday morning between 10:30 a.m. and Noon at Margarettsville Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.
