YEATESVILLE — The big play Bruins showcased their explosive offense in Yeatesville on Friday night.
Camden (5-2) scored on four plays of 25 yards or more Friday, as it lit up the scoreboard for 42 first half points en route to a 49-17 win over Northside.
Camden’s Rashard Overton made Northside quarterback Isaiah McCullor pay for two early interceptions. After the Bruins forced the Panthers to turn the ball over twice in the opening minutes, Overton immediately made the turnovers pay dividends as he raced in for touchdown runs of nine and 51 yards on the Bruins’ first play following the turnovers, giving Camden an early 13-0 lead.
The Panthers answered the early scores with 4:31 left in the first quarter as Bradley Slade took a short kickoff and galloped 73 yards into the end zone to make it 13-7.
On its ensuing drive, the high-octane offense of Camden was back at it as quarterback Ricky Krainiak dashed 29 yards for a touchdown to put the Bruins ahead 19-7.
Once again, Northside came charging back as McCullor found room in the ground game, leading the Panthers on a 60-yard drive as he carried five times for 39 yards before connecting with Jared Adams on a six-yard touchdown pass to make it 19-14.
Northside would get no closer as Overton scored his third touchdown of the game on an 11-yard scamper early in the second quarter.
After Northside trimmed the deficit to 27-17 on a 31-yard field goal by Cecilio Cota with 5:03 left in the halftime, the Bruins erupted for two touchdowns in the final three minutes. The first came on a 54-yard jaunt by Krainiak and the back-breaker was a 64-yard touchdown connection between Krainiak and Demetris Branch with five seconds left in the half, giving the Bruins a 42-17 edge.
Camden added the only other score late in the third quarter as Adrian Gray plowed in from four yards out to make it 49-17.
Krainiak and Overton each had over 100 yards rushing before sitting out the second half. Krainiak had 118 yards on five carries, while Overton finished with 111 yards on six touches. Kraniak also added 80 yards through the air.
Northside was led by McCullor who had a game-high 133 yards on the ground and another 57 through the air.
The Panthers (2-5) will look to get back on the winning track next Friday when they travel to Manteo.
