Poker run brings out over 75 riders

Participants in the Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit Run roared up to Crisp RV Center in Chocowinity and Eastern Radiologists Saturday morning.
Eastern Radiologists greeted approximately 75 riders throughout the morning and early afternoon, said Tanya Dixon, manager of Eastern Radiologists.
As one of five stops on the “poker run,” Eastern Radiologists held decks of cards from which the riders were to choose a card. Crisp RV Center was another of the stops.
With the completion of the “poker run” at J &E Harley-Davidson in Winterville, riders could compare their five-card hands. The participant with the best hand won the run, and $150.
But the real winner in the “poker run” was the Pitt Memorial Hospital Foundation. All proceeds from the event went to the foundation for breast cancer screenings. The screenings will be provided to individuals unable to pay for the procedure.
The event was put on by the Ladies of Harley and J &E Harley-Davidson, and started at the dealership in Winterville.
The first group of riders rode out of J &E at 10 a.m. The race took participants from J &E to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where each rider picked up their first card. From the hospital, the riders made their way to Crisp RV Center in Chocowinity. Next on the route was Eastern Radiologists. From there, the riders made the lengthy trek to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.
The hospital was included in the run because Tarboro ranks among the highest areas in the nation for breast cancer-related deaths.
From Tarboro, the riders finally made their way back to Breast Imaging/Eastern Radiologists in Greenville and J &E.
Dorian Miller, a member of the Ladies of Harley said she wanted to “stress our appreciation to the local businesses who are supporting this benefit run.”
Dixon enjoyed providing cards, food and beverages for the riders at Eastern Radiologists.
She said the ride is important, especially as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Lorrie Blackard, a technician at Eastern Radiologists, helped out with the run. She was impressed with the gratitude shown by the riders.
