WILSON — George Connor Vick, Jr., 82, died Friday, October 17, 2008.
Mr. Vick was a retired accountant and had been a grant writer for the Rocky Mount Housing Authority. He had been active in the Jaycees and was a Mason. He was active in First United Methodist Church having co-written the Church Chimes and written the Methodist Men’s Newsletter. He was the first president of the Wilson Arts Council and served for 13 years on the Wilson School Board. He had served on the Wilson Cemetery Commission and the Girl Scout Council. He was an avid tennis player and member of the Wilson Tennis Association. Mr. Vick was a Navy veteran of World War II and a second lieutenant in the National Guard.
Funeral, Sunday, 3:00 PM, Maplewood Cemetery.
Surviving: wife, Nancy Moss Vick; daughters, Nancy Thompson (Larry) of Richmond, VA., and Sarah Purvis of Washington, NC; grandchildren, Keith Purvis, Nan Lanier, Larry Thompson, Connor Purvis and Jean Purvis; great-grandchildren, Griffin Purvis and Ebbie Purvis.
