C.J. Wilson recorded another sack for the East Carolina Pirates in Saturday’s 30-10 win over the Memphis Tigers.
Wilson, a former Northside High School star, finished with five tackles, including two tackles-for-loss totaling eight yards.
For the season, Wilson has 36 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss (for 38 yards), 5.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.
Wilson went over 100 tackles in his career with his five-tackle effort against the Tigers. The defensive end now has 101 tackles and 16.5 sacks in his career.
The Pirates (4-3, 2-1 C-USA), off next week, return to action Sunday, Nov. 2, in an 8 p.m. game at UCF.
Goddard has four tackles
Trimane Goddard recorded four tackles for the No. 18 North Carolina Tar Heels in Saturday’s 16-13 overtime loss to the Virginia Cavaliers.
Goddard, a former star at Roanoke High School, had one tackle-for-loss.
For the season, Goddard has 31 tackles, four interceptions, three pass break-ups, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. His four interceptions is his single-season high.
Goddard has nine interceptions and 159 tackles in his career.
The Heels (5-2, 1-2 ACC) return to action for a noon kickoff Saturday at home against Boston College.
Palmer in action
Greg Palmer and the Chowan Hawks fell 68-13 to Shaw University on Saturday.
Palmer was coming off a career game a week earlier where he had seven tackles, two sacks, a quarterback hurry and a fumble return for a score. That helped Palmer land the CIAA defensive lineman of the week award.
For the season, Palmer, a former standout at Northside High School, has 28 tackles, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
Chowan (2-6, 1-5 CIAA) play at Johnson C. Smith University in a 1 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
Marable nets five tackles
Jeremiah Marable had five tackles for the Elizabeth City Vikings in a 70-6 win over Lincoln (Pa.) on Saturday.
The former Southside High School star led the Vikings with the tackle total.
On the season, Marable has 46 tackles, a fumble recovery, a blocked punt, a blocked punt return for a touchdown, a punt return of nine yards and two pass break-ups.
The Vikings (5-3, 5-0 CIAA) play host to St. Paul’s College in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.
Jones on kickoff returns
Jamont Jones had three kickoff returns for the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in a 62-21 loss to Carson-Newman College on Saturday.
Jones netted 55 yards on the returns, which included a long of 23 yards. He also had one tackle and one pass break-up.
The former Washington Pam Pack standout, a freshman with the Bears, has five tackles, five kickoff returns for 135 yards (27.0 average), one interception and one punt return for eight yards on the season.
The Bears (3-5, 1-3 SAC) play host to Mars Hill College in a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.
Daniels has solid day
Travis Daniels had 105 all-purpose yards for the UNC-Pembroke Braves in Saturday’s 43-8 win over Edward Waters.
The former Washington High School star, a freshman with the UNC-Pembroke Braves, rushed for 22 yards on five carries. He also had three receptions for 40 yards, and two kickoff returns for 43 yards, which included a long of 34 yards.
For the season, Daniels has rushed for 247 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. He’s caught eight passes for 102 yards, and has three kickoff returns for 69 yards (23.0 average).
The Braves (7-1), off next week, play host to Concord in a 1 p.m. game on Nov. 1.
Clemmons sees Wolfpack fall
Jamaine Clemmons and the N.C. State Wolfpack fell 26-17 to Florida State on Thursday.
Clemmons, a former standout at Williamston High School, has not been credited with a tackle yet this season. The defensive end wears No. 90 for the Wolfpack.
N.C. State (2-5, 0-3 ACC) returns to action at Maryland in a 3:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
Hyman has quiet day
Kenneth Hyman has one pass break-up for the Guilford Quakers in Saturday’s 27-20 loss to Bridgewater.
Hyman, a former standout with the Roanoke Redskins, has 16 tackles, two interceptions, four pass break-ups and four pass deflections.
The Quakers (3-3, 0-2 ODAC) return to action Saturday in a 1 p.m. at Washington &Lee.
Rodgers, Cahoon help Bishops win
Nigel Rodgers and Micke’l Cahoon helped the North Carolina Wesleyan Bishops to a 49-24 win over Averett on Saturday.
Rodgers, a former standout at Washington High School, had two tackles. He has 15 tackles and one pass break-up on the season.
Cahoon, a former standout at Creswell High School, had 4.5 tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss. He has 13.5 tackles, including nine for loss totaling 39 yards, on the season.
Freshman Jarret Coffield, a former standout at Williamston High School, is 0 for 2 from his quarterback spot.
Also, Floyd Moore, a former standout at Southside High School, has not recorded any tackles to date.
Wesleyan (3-3, 2-1 USA South Conference) plays at Shenandoah University in a 7 p.m. game on Saturday.
Coffield still lighting it up
Elton Coffield is playing with the BSW Sixers in Germany once again.
The former Williamston High School and Mount Olive College star, who led the league in scoring last year, is averaging 23.3 points per game.
