Mrs. Rachel Johnson Ward, 89, of 1209 W. Main St., Williamston, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church with the Revs. Jim Bussell and Tom Goebel officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Ward was born in Martin County on July 6, 1919. She was the daughter of Henry A. and Lillian Cherry Johnson. On April 30, 1941, she married Exum Louis Ward, who preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1970. She was the retired owner of Williamston Hardware. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Ward Parrell of Newport; one sister, Lillian Ann J. Moore of Tarboro; four brothers, Henry Irvin Johnson of Greenville, Kenneth Johnson, Gene Johnson and Dan Johnson, all of Williamston; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lennie Cherry Ward and Thelma J. Mayo.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at the home.
