Mrs. Martha Jeannette Boyd O’Neal, age 72, a resident of 5452 Broad Creek Road, Washington, NC died Saturday November 22, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday November 25, 2008 at Long Acre Chapel Christian Church officiated by Thelbert Leggett and Linwood Adams. Burial will follow in the Long Acre Chapel Church Cemetery. Elders and Deacons of Long Acre Chapel Church will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. O’Neal’s grandchildren.
Mrs. O’Neal was born in Pinetown on August 14, 1936 daughter of the late Hallas Hunter Boyd, Sr. and the late Mary Benton Wallace Boyd. She was a 1954 graduate of Pantego High School and married Braxton S. O’Neal Sr. on November 24, 1960 who survives. Mr. and Mrs. O’Neal made their family home in Washington. She was a lifelong member of Long Acre Chapel Christian Church, a member of the church choir and the ladies aid. Mrs. O’Neal was an accomplished seamstress that worked at Buckman’s Clothing Store in Washington, a highly regarded cook and a proud homemaker. She was a member of the A to Z Doll club in Washington, who enjoyed creating porcelain dolls, which continue to be prized by family members and collectors. In her later years she shared a new found love of landscape painting with Mr. O’Neal.
Surviving along with her husband Braxton, Sr. of the home are two sons: Braxton S. O’Neal Jr. and his wife Tina of Raleigh; Wesley O’Neal and his wife Deborah of Pinetown; a daughter: Mary Josephine O’Neal Chrismon and her husband Roy of Washington; a brother: Hallas Boyd, Jr. and his wife Linda of Belhaven; a sister: Thelma Boyd Allen and her husband Norman of Pantego and seven grandchildren: Braxton S. O’Neal, III, Holden O’Neal, Ethan O’Neal, Todd O’Neal, Reed O’Neal, Cody Chrismon and Amelia Chrismon.
The family will receive friends 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Monday November 24, 2008 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home.
