Mrs. Jewel Young Gill, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Lifecare Hospital in Rocky Mount.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Swallow Savannah Cemetery in Allendale, S.C.
Mrs. Gill was born in Asheville on Aug. 5, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McFarland Young. She was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C. She was married to William B. Gill, who preceded her in death. She worked as a school teacher for 30 years in Glen Alpine and Allendale, S.C. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Allendale, S.C., where she sang in the choir and taught the 3- and 4-year-old Sunday school class for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Anita Lowe and Patricia “Cammie” Braddy, both of Washington, and Diane Gill of Lexington, S.C.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
