Area stars are going bowling

C.J. Wilson had 1.5 sacks for the East Carolina Pirates in Saturday’s 27-24 win over Tulsa in the Conference USA championship game. He also recorded seven tackles.
Wilson, a former Northside High School star, 10.5 sacks (for 61 yards), has 64 tackles, 18.5 tackles-for-loss (for 84 yards), five quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.
The defensive end now has 127.5 tackles and 21.5 sacks in his career.
The Pirates (9-4) play Kentucky (6-6) in the Jan. 2 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.
The game, which will be televised by ESPN, kicks off at 5 p.m.
Goddard, Heels to play close to home
Trimane Goddard and his North Carolina Tar Heels will play West Virginia in the Dec. 27 Meineke Car Care Bowl. The game, which will kick off at 1 p.m., will be played at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers.
It will be televised on ESPN. Both teams enter the bowl game with 8-4 records.
Goddard, a former star at Roanoke High School, has seven interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 48 tackles, five pass break-ups, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble this season.
Goddard, named as the All-ACC First Team safety, has 12 interceptions and 176 tackles in his career.
Clemmons, Wolfpack to face Rutgers
Jamaine Clemmons and his N.C. State Wolfpack are going bowling. The Wolfpack will play Rutgers in the Dec. 29 PapaJohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala.
Clemmons, a former standout at Williamston High School, is a defensive end with the Wolfpack.
N.C. State enters the bowl game with a 6-6 record, while Rutgers is 7-5.
The game, which will be televised by ESPN, kicks off at 3 p.m.
PRO FOOTBALL
Terrance Copper, a former standout at Washington High School and East Carolina University, is a wide receiver/special teams ace with the Baltimore Ravens. He wasn’t active for his team’s game Sunday night against the Washington Redskins.
Copper doesn’t have a catch and has one special teams tackle this year.
The Ravens play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday.
PRO BASKETBALL
Damien Wilkins is averaging 5.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Elton Coffield, a former star at Williamston High School, is averaging 23.1 points with the BSW Sixers (Germany).
Joe Barber, a former standout at Terra Ceia College, is averaging 11.4 points and 3.4 rebounds with the Sendai 89ers (Japan).
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Samantha Smith, a former standout at Washington High School, is averaging 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds with the Tallahassee Community College Lady Eagles.
Cor-J Cox, a former standout at Washington High School, is averaging 5.6 points and 2.5 rebounds with the Olney Central College Blue Knights.
Whitney Stokes, a former standout at Plymouth High School, is averaging 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds with the Elizabeth City State University Vikings.
Stephanie Holton, a former star at Columbia High School, is playing with the Shenandoah Hornets. She has appeared in two games this season and has not yet scored.
Bradley Van Staalduinen, a former standout at Terra Ceia, is averaging 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds with the Wingate Bulldogs.
Hunter Johnson, a former standout at Pungo, is averaging 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds with the Meredith Avenging Angels. She is hitting 55 percent of her shots, and 93.8 percent at the foul line.
Raphael Marable, a former standout at Southside High School, is playing with the UNC-Pembroke Braves. He has appeared in one game and has not yet scored.
