Mr. Alfred Merton Birmingham, the son of the late Charles and Millicent Birmingham, was born in New York City, New York on January 24, 1928; departed his earthly life on December 10, 2008. He was the eldest son of four boys. His three brothers preceded him in death. He was married to the late Viola Grant.
He received his formal education from the New York City school system. Alfred was an avid reader and never lost his love for learning. He knew a lot about many things. Throughout his life he did extensive traveling.
He was a merchant marine and was employed by New York housing authority from which he retired. After retirement he moved to Plymouth, NC.
He was a member of All Soul’s Church of New York.
Those who survive to mourn his loss are his daughters — Camille Davis — Amherst, Ma., Jocelyn Moore — Brooklyn, NY., six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a special niece Michelle Baxter — Boyd’s, MD., and a dear friend and caregiver Merion Anderson of Plymouth, NC., and a host of saints and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday December 16, 2008 at Toodle’s Funeral Home with Elder Daniel Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in Toodle’s Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at his home 321 Wilson Street Plymouth, NC.
