Alfred Eugene Laux, 88, of 1179 White Plains Road, Engelhard died Monday, December 15, 2008, at the home of his daughter surrounded by his family.
Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, July 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Sabol Laux. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw duty in England, France and Germany as a surgical technician. He spent his working years with General Motors in assembly retiring after 33 years of service and never missed a day of work. He was married to Irene Russett Laux who preceded him in death. He was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the family plot in Fulford Cemetery in Engelhard. Father Miguel Arturo Cabra will officiate assisted by Pastor David Caldwell.
Surviving are a daughter, Denise L. Gibbs and her husband, Marco of Engelhard; three grandsons, Jeremy Gibbs of Orlando, Florida, Joseph Gibbs and Johnny Gibbs both of Engelhard; three great-grandchildren, A. J. Gibbs, Dustin Gibbs and Bethany Gibbs.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Laux was preceded in death by brothers, Frederick Laux and William Laux; sisters, Kay Lupo and Margaret Luscey.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Community Homecare and Hospice, P. O. Box 130, Engelhard NC 27824.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter on Wednesday, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and other times at the home of Marco and Denise Gibbs, 36676 U. S. Highway 264, Engelhard.
