The Washington Pam Pack football team had 12 players honored by the Coastal Conference last week after the Pack posted an 8-5 record to finish second behind Class 3-A state runner-up West Craven.
Quarterback Austin Thompson, running back Tony Turnage, wide reciever/running back Dakuan Spencer, offensive tackle Gil Broadway, defensive end Chase Tripp and defensive tackle Cedrick Summers were all first-team all-conference selections.
Thompson, Washington’s third-year quarterback, was recognized after throwing for 1,840 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. He also ran for 263 yards and five scores.
Turnage was the Pam Pack’s leading rusher with 99 carries for 711 yards and four touchdowns.
Spencer, a junior wide receiver/running back, amassed 1,095 yards of total offense. He caught a team-high 39 passes for 609 yards with 10 touchdown catches, while runnng for 486 yards and five scores.
Broadway, a 6’5” 280-pound senior, was a solid run blocker and stout pass blocker on an offense that amassed more than 4,000 yards of total offense on the year.
Tripp, led the Pam Pack in sacks, and was a disruptive force in the opponents’ backfield despite constantly facing double teams.
Summers anchored the middle of Washington’s defense and was a crucial run stopper on a defensive unit that held it’s opponents to 20.4 points per game.
Joining the six first-team selections were honorable mention recipients Justin Moore (linebacker), Xavier Ernul (defensive end), Melvin Spruell (safety), Justin Meekins (kicker/punter), William Ellegor (defensive back) and Mike Moore (wide receiver).
