Mr. Edward Alexander “Polk” Davenport Jr., 70, of 513 Madison St., Plymouth, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Zion Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Toodle’s Cemetery.
Mr. Davenport was born June 8, 1938, in Washington County. He was the son of Edward Alexander Davenport Sr. and the late Cora Lee Brown Davenport. He was a retired employee with the City of Newark. Mr. Davenport was a veteran of the Army and was a recipient of a Good Conduct medal, a Marksman (Rifle) medal and a National Defense Service medal. He was a member of First Zion Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, William Edward Davenport of Williamston; a daughter, Millesonia Brooks of Knightdale; his father, Edward Alexander Davenport Sr. of Plymouth; four sisters, Verna Turner of Jersey City, N.J., Iris Johnson of Columbus, Ga., and Catherine Bond and Emma D. Moore, both of Plymouth; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Emma D. Moore, 309 Hampton Drive, Plymouth.
The body will be placed in the church at noon Tuesday.
Arrangements are by Toodle’s Funeral Home, Plymouth.
