Only a handful of Washington wrestlers has ever reached the 100-career win mark.
Now, the Pam Pack may have two more grapplers join the elite club in the span of four days.
On Saturday, 130-pound Gabriel Gardner etched his name into the Washington record book with his 100th career win at the Pilkington Duals at C.B. Aycock. Gardner went 5-0 on the afternoon and logged his 100th win when he picked up a forfeit against Southwest Edgecombe.
While Gardner has already achieved the milestone, junior Justin “Weasel” Moore will get the opportunity to earn his 100th career win later this evening when the Pam Pack takes on New Bern at home. On a night when Washington will honor its departing seniors, the Pack’s junior wrestler can steal the spotlight when he takes on Bears’ 171-pounder Christian Ipock.
Gardner is now 101-40 in his four-year career, while Moore is 99-15. While time may run out on Gardner’s bid to break Gerald Lawrence’s school record of 139 wins, Moore is on pace to shatter the mark as he could log close to 160 wins in his career.
Washington coach Danny Riggs thinks it’s a colossal achievement to get 100 wins in Moore’s career. He thinks it’s even more amazing that two of his guys may reach the mark in the duration of a week.
Moore (21-0 on the season) and Gardner (21-4 on the year) hope to achieve one more milestone together - winning a state championship.
Moore echoed those sentiments.
