Mr. Ottis M. Crisp, Sr., 88, of 1543 Whichard’s Beach Road, Chocowinity, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 15th Street Church of God with Pastor Phillip Jethro and Pastor Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Greg Crisp, Matt Crisp, Robbie Crisp, Billy Gurganus, Dwayne Gurganus, and Donnie Smith will serve as pallbearers. Brad Kooken, Andy Crisp, and Jennis Crisp will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 15th Street Church of God Fellowship Hall and other times at the home of Ottis and Shirley Crisp, Harbor Drive, Chocowinity, NC.
Mr. Crisp was born July 31, 1920 in the Snowd Branch Community of Beaufort County. He was the son of the late Aulander L. Crisp and Nancy Biggs Crisp. On October 12, 1941, He married Ruby Lee Boyd, who survives. A lifelong resident of Beaufort County, Mr. Crisp was a retired minister and farmer. He organized and was pastor of Bath Church of God, he helped organize Chocowinity Church of God and served as pastor at Fort Barnwell Church of God. He was a member of the 15th Street Church of God, and taught Sunday School at Twin Lakes Campground for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ruby Lee Crisp; three sons, A.L. Crisp and wife, Angela of Washington, Ottis Crisp, Jr. and wife, Shirley, and Jesse Crisp and wife, Ann Marie, all of Chocowinity; one daughter, Linda Crisp Allen and husband, James of Pantego; one sister, Lou Crisp Martin of Washington; nine grandchildren, Amy Allen Boyd, Christina Allen Lyon, Greg Crisp, Robbie Crisp, Jennis Crisp, O. Matt Crisp, III, Jaime Crisp Chadwick, Brad Kooken, and Andy Crisp; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah Boyd, Ethan Boyd, Emma Crisp, Will Crisp, Logan Crisp, Grant Crisp, Cayman Crisp, and Kyle Crisp.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Maedell Crisp Jackson, Oma Jay Duty, Eunice Beatrice Crisp, Gladys M. Crisp Elks, and Rae Crisp Linnen; and two brothers, Jennis McCoy Crisp, and William Bernis Crisp.
