Mr. Jack D. Cox, 86, of Statesboro, Ga., and formerly of Blounts Creek, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, Statesboro, Ga. with the Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens. Stuart Patray, Jim Long, Shedwrick Dean, Justin Lane, Dallas Cox and Jay Groover will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Cox was born in Blounts Creek. He was an Army Air Force veteran serving in the China offensive during World War II. He was married to Clara Allene Lee Cox, who preceded him in death. He retired after 36 years as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He was a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include one son, Derwin “Deke” Cox of Statesboro, Ga.; one stepson, Sam Best of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Dale Cox of Blounts Creek and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, Statesboro, Ga.
