Mrs. Ruby Peaks Bonds “MaMa” Griffin, 87, of 1026 Ruby’s Lane, Williamston, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Piney Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. David Anderson and Haywood Price and Jay Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Bear Grass on Nov. 14, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Wheeler Foster Peaks and Carrie Lee Rogers Peaks. She was married to Earl Bonds, who preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1966. She later married Staton Griffin, who preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1988. She was a retired textile plant worker and farmer. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dianne Roberson of Williamston; four sisters, Surreatha Phelps of Greenville, and Flossie Price, Mollie Roberson and Alice Rhodes, all of Williamston; two stepdaughters, Barbara Vainwright of Macclesfield and Brenda Ward of Conway, S.C.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7-8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at 1090 Ruby’s Lane.
