East Carolina University Chancellor Steve Ballard is staying in Greenville.
Ballard, who was a finalist for the president’s position at Kansas State University, told the Daily News that he’s remaining at ECU. He was attending the ECU-Memphis men’s basketball game Wednesday night when he revealed his decision.
Kansas State President Jon Wefald will retire at the end of the 2008-09 academic year.
Ballard participated in a KSU candidates forum last week in Manhattan, Kan., and was one of three finalists for the position. He and his wife, Nancy, also had planned to meet with campus and community groups during that trip.
The ECU leader said he will formally announce his decision today.
Before coming to ECU in 2004, Ballard served from 2001-04 as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Prior to that, he was vice provost for research and dean of the graduate college at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.
