Mrs. Marie Carter Respess, age 87, a resident of 1566 A Canal Road, the Wenona Community of Pantego died Thursday January 29, 2009 at the Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday February 1, 2009 at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Plymouth officiated by Thelbert Leggett.
Mrs. Respess was born in Washington County on December 7, 1921 daughter of the late Joshua Franklin Carter, Sr. and the late Maggie Williams Carter. She attended Plymouth schools and graduated from Pantego High School. She married Jesse Rudolph Respess, Sr. who preceded her in death on December 3, 1963. Mrs. Respess was a homemaker and a member of Wenona Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons: Jackie C. Respess and his wife Brenda of Pantego and Danny Respess and his wife Kitty of Pantego; a daughter: Donna R. Burbage and her husband Gary of Bath; a daughter in law: Diana R. Respess of Pantego; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Respess was preceded in death by a son: J.R. Respess on June 18, 1999 and a brother: J.F. Carter, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday January 31, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and at other times at the home.
