Mrs. Karen Denise Avant Alligood, 50, of 163 Singleton St., Washington, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Alligood family cemetery, Washington, with pastor Phillip Jethro officiating.
Mrs. Alligood was born in Camden County, New Jersey, on April 19, 1958. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Avant and Vivian Park. She was married to William Bruce Alligood, who survives. She had worked at Singer Furniture Company in Chocowinity and Fountain Power Boats of Chocowinity.
Survivors include one daughter, Tonya Latham of Washington; one son, Anthony Alligood of Washington; three sisters, Jo Anne Kraszewski of New Jersey, Vivian Stokesberry of Bath and Deborah Brown of Georgia; four brothers, George Bowe of Florida, Joe Avant and Donald Avant, both of New Jersey, and Billy Avant of Georgia and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends following the service and at the home of her daughter, 8642 N.C. Highway 32 North, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Karen A. Alligood Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, NC 27889.
