Mr. William Eldred Pridgen, age 78, a resident of 1246 Pridgen Lane, Washington died Thursday evening February 5, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday February 8, 2009 at the 15th Street Church of God in Washington with Pastor Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Roshad Pridgen, Trae Cherry, Lee Cherry, Allen Buck, Danny Hardee and Dwayne Edwards will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Pridgen was born in Beaufort County on July 20, 1930, son of the late Johnnie Pridgen and Mary Crisp Pridgen. On March 13, 1954, he married the former Neva “Joyce” Carrow who survives. Mr. Pridgen retired from the United States Railroad. He served his country in the US Army and was a member of the 15th Street Church of God.
In addition to his wife, Neva “Joyce” Pridgen of the home, he is survived by his children, William Wesley Pridgen, Ray Watson Pridgen and Tammy Lynn Pridgen all of Washington and Brian Keith Pridgen of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Brandy Cherry, Roshad Pridgen, Trae Cherry, Loren Cherry and Aven Harris; his brothers, Alton Pridgen of Washington and J.R. Pridgen of Colorado; his sisters, Edna Pridgen Smith and Christine Pridgen Morris both of Washington. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Neva Pridgen Cherry and a sister, Elizabeth Pridgen Hardee.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday February 7th at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home.
