RUTH HAYES EDWARDS, a resident of 1120 Cowell Farm Road, Washington, N.C., passed away February 6, 2009.
Mrs. Edwards was born on December 5, 1927, daughter of the late Allison and Lena Hayes. She was married to Clifton Edwards who preceded her in death in 1984. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Julian Hayes and Heber Hayes, and two sisters, Opal Spruill, and Billy Jean Rich.
She was employed as a secretary for 16 years with ReDisCo in Greenville, N.C. and 10 years of part time work with Brown Library in Washington, N.C. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the American Bridge League. She cherished her many friendships and was known for her love of baking and sharing.
Survivors include one son, David A. Edwards and wife, Vickie, three grandsons and two great grandsons who live in Charlotte, N.C. One brother, A.B. Hayes Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and two sisters; twin sister, Ruby Bell of Morehead, and Margaret Jernigan of Chapel Hill.
A memorial will be held at First United Methodist Church, 304 west 2nd street, Washington, N.C., on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Edwards name may be made to Pitt County Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 8489 Greenville, N.C. 27835 C/O University Health System Inpatient Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church, 304 West 2nd Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
