Anna Pfeiffer won titles in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breast stroke at the NCHSAA Class 3-A East Region Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday to key one of the Pam Pack’s strongest showings in school history.
Washington’s senior swimmer edged Ragsdale’s Carlie Penderton by nearly one second in the 100-yard freestyle finals, then cruised to a relatively easy victory in the 100-yard breast stroke by defeating Southern Nash’s Victoria Hardy by almost three seconds.
Pfeiffer also teamed with Shannon Niederhauser, Riziki Omonde and Shelby Smithwick to claim runner-up finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay races, as Washington’s girls’ swim team finished fifth among the 28 teams competing on Saturday.
Washington’s boys also had stellar afternoon as they placed sixth among 32 teams.
Pam Pack freshman Riziki Omonde added a pair of fourth place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle competitions, while Brandon Niederhauser paced the boys’ team with his fifth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle race. Niederhauser added a seventh place finish in the 50-free and teamed up with Adam Mason, Joey Davenport and Luke Stroud to take fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Niederhauser was also part of the 400-yard freestle relay team that took seventh. That team included Stroud, Colin Daw and Charles Pfeiffer.
Will Davis added a pair of top-10 finishes for the Pack as he took eighth in the 200-yard freestyle race and ninth in the 100-yard breast stroke. York Winstead picked up a 10th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, while Shannon Niederhauser took ninth in her 50-yard freestyle race.
All told, the Pam Pack will send four individuals and five relay teams to this weekend’s NCHSAA Class 3A Swimming &Diving State Championship meet.
