Jean Brickhouse Young, 59, of 931 Bryant Estates Road, Fuquay-Varina, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at her home.
Born in Tyrrell County, N. C. on August 20, 1949, she was the daughter of Wilma Davenport Spencer and the late Herbert Lewis Brickhouse, Sr. She was retired from the North Carolina National Guard as an Administrative Assistant where she served for 33 years. She was a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine presented to her by Governor Michael Easley. She also received an award for meritorious service by The Department of Crime Control and Public Safety and was an avid golfer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Bryan Funeral Service in Columbia. Dr. Jeff Crabtree will officiate. Burial will follow in Soundside Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Young; her mother, Wilma Davenport Spencer of Columbia; two sons, Mark and Ryan both of Raleigh; two sisters, Patricia Ann Armstrong of Columbia and Rita B. Rhodes of Plymouth; a brother, Jessie Lee Spencer, Jr. of Cary; two step-sisters, Gay Riddick of Chesapeake, VA and Carol Holliday of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Shirlyn D. Brickhouse of Fairfield; a step sister-in-law, Benny Spencer of Columbia; a grandson, Austin.
Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Lewis Brickhouse, Jr; a step-brother, Neill Spencer and her step-father, Jessie L. Spencer, Sr.
The family will receive friends at Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia on Friday between6 p. m. and 8 p.m. and other times at the home of her mother, 702 Green Street, Columbia.
