Mrs. Louise Alligood Chandler, age 66, a resident of 9675 US Hwy. 17 South, Chocowinity, NC died Sunday March 8, 2009 at the Beaufort County Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday March 11, 2009 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Henry Horne. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Ken Spivey, Harold Bright, Deryl Bass, Obe Worthington, Buddy Holloway and Jerry Armstrong will serve as pallbearers: Honorary pallbearers will be Ruffin Chandler, Douglas Branch, Billy Hill and Jimmy Harris.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Beaufort County on August 17, 1942 daughter of the late Albert Collins Alligood, Sr. and the late Nannie Sutton Alligood. She attended Chocowinity High School and married Autry Eural Chandler on August 23, 1958 who preceded her in death on January 10, 2009. Mrs. Chandler was a seamstress at Samson’s Shirt Factory for nineteen years, a clerk for Roses, a manager at Dunbar’s Grocery in Chocowinity and at the time of her retirement due to health worked at Tideland Mental Health. She was a member of Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the Young Adults Sunday School Class .
Mrs. Chandler is survived by a son: Autry “Tater” Eural Chandler, Jr. and his wife Roberta of New Orleans, LA; a daughter: Sharon “Wart” Chandler Tucker and her husband Fredric of Clarksville, TN; a brother: David Alligood of Punta Gorda, FL; three grandchildren: Kimberly “Sissy” Lynch, Ashley “Skeeter” Chandler and Frederick “Skip” Tucker; special nieces: Thelma Life and Jo Ann Robinson; a special nephew: Robin Woolard and a special friend: Carolyn Bright. Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by three sisters: Irene Woolard, Beatrice Murray and Virginia Davis and five brothers: Albert Alligood, Jr., Willie Alligood, John Alligood, Harvey Mack Alligood and James Alligood.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday March 10, 2009 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2110 Old New Bern Road, Chocowinity, NC 27817 and at other times at the home.
