Mrs. Dorothy Aycock Davenport Clark, 85, of Autumnfield, Belhaven, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Pungo District Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Hebron United Methodist Church in Pantego with Rev. Sam L. Grist III officiating.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately after the service. A Service of Committal will follow at the Flynn Cemetery in Pantego.
Mrs. Clark was born August 27, 1923 in Beaufort County. She was the daughter of the late James Henderson Davenport and Esther Old Aycock Davenport. On December 19, 1945 she married George Curtis Clark who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Pantego. She attended UNC-G and retired from Tideland Electric Membership Corporation.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Esther Baker and her husband, Stan of Raleigh, NC and Martha Ella Dreher and her husband, David of Jackson, MS; one son, George Curtis Clark, Jr. and his wife, Anne, of Greenville, NC; one sister, Ella Old West of Elizabeth City, NC; and five grandchildren, Dr. Edwin B. Martin II and his wife Beth, of Wrightsville Beach, NC, John C. Martin of Charleston, SC, Tiffany Martin of Oakland, CA, Caroline Clark and Curt Clark, both of Greenville, NC.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dorothy D. and George Curtis Clark Endowment c/o North Carolina Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609. The endowment ensures an annual grant to provide ongoing support for Partnership for the Sounds, Inc. restricted to funding the North Carolina Estuarium.
