CHOCOWINITY — Sam Jarman’s monstrous shot over the left field fence in the fourth inning was the only support Eric Boyd would need.
Jarman’s home run and Boyd’s strong pitching lifted the Southside Seahawks to a 2-0 win over the Roanoke Redskins in Tuesday’s prep baseball action.
Boyd and Roanoke’s Tyreke Cooper had been throwing zeroes until Jarman came through in the fourth. Jamie Blackard, who had one of Southside’s five hits, got on base. He eventually worked his way to third base when Jarman stepped into the batter’s box.
Jarman crushed Cooper’s offering, sending it over the fence in deep left.
That was more than enough for Boyd, who held the Redskins to just two hits. Boyd fanned seven in the complete-game victory.
Kevin Sparks smacked two hits for Southside, while Alarie Elks had one.
The Seahawks (5-5, 3-2) return to action Thursday at Williamston. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
