Mr. Linwood “Wayne” Whitley, age 57, a resident of 1675 Carrow Road, Chocowinity, NC died April 18, 2009 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday April 22, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington officiated by Pastor Ronnie Gurganus.
Mr. Wayne was born in Beaufort County on February 10, 1952 son of William Linwood Whitley and Polly Hudson Whitley. He was a 1970 graduate of Chocowinity High School and continued his education at Beaufort Tech. Wayne married the former Susan Kay Dixon on May 5, 1973 who survives. He was a machinist in the machine shop at PCS Phosphate Co., a former member of Old Cove and Blueberry Hunting Clubs, a member of Frog Level Motorcycle Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Wayne was a NC custom knife maker’s guide who loved working on motorcycles and hot rods and was owner of WW Custom Knives.
Surviving along with Wayne’s wife Susan of the home and parents William Linwood and Polly Whitley of Chocowinity are a daughter: Amanda Whitley Brame of Va. Beach, VA; a son: Mathew Shane Whitley of Chocowinity; three sisters: Debra Whitley Buck of Kinston, Ava Whitley Creech of Beaufort and Becky Jo Whitley of Beaufort; two brothers: Bobby Paige of Greenville and Christopher Whitley of Chocowinity; mother and father-in-law: Albert and Jean Dixon of Chocowinity; sister-in-law: Carolyn Garris of Blounts Creek a brother-in-law: John Dixon of Tenn. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wayne was preceded in death by a brother: Gary Whitley.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday April 21, 2009 at Paul Funeral Home of Washington and at other times at the home or at the home of his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Toys For Tots in honor of Wayne Whitley FLMC at any First South Bank.
