Mrs. Cora Dixon Shavender Asby, age 89, of 61 Camp Leach Road, Washington, NC passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the Chapel of Hillside Funeral Service, with Rev. Lee Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Clinton Asby, Gene Asby, Guy Cutler, Maurice Cutler, Dale Gordon and Jeff Hardesty will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Highway 264 East, Washington, NC.
Mrs. Asby was born March 15, 1920 in Pitt County to Marshall and Victoria Dixon. She was a homemaker and lived her entire life in Beaufort County. Cora was first married to Richard W. Shavender who preceded her in death in 1965. On November 14, 1981 she married Edward E. Asby. Cora was an outstanding mother and a very devoted and loving wife. She was a child of God and a member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Edward E. Asby; two sons, Richard W. “Bill” Shavender, Jr. and wife Diane of Washington and Edward Earl Shavender and wife Autry of Bath; one daughter, Betty Jean Shavender of MS; one brother, Herbert Dixon of Hampton, VA; and one sister, Betty Lee Cahoon of Bath; five grandchildren, Victoria Smith, Michelle Hardesty, Richard W. Shavender, III, Edward E. Shavender, Jr. and Angie Elzey; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
