After weeks of uncertainty, Davidson guard Stephen Curry will announce this morning if he’s staying in school for his senior season or entering the NBA draft.
But if the nation’s top scorer had made up his mind late Wednesday night, he hadn’t told his coach — or his father.
Dell Curry, the former NBA sharpshooter, added in a text message that his son ‘‘won’t tell us til morning.’’
McKillop said he put the 6-foot-3 Curry through an individual workout Wednesday morning and that he ‘‘looked great and had a hop in his step.’’ McKillop then saw Curry again in the middle of the afternoon before going on a recruiting visit.
McKillop said he couldn’t tell which way his star guard was leaning.
McKillop and Dell Curry will also attend the news conference Thursday morning at the Davidson athletic center.
Curry, who averaged 28.6 points a game last season, has been wrestling with the decision for weeks.
He could be a lottery pick and would certainly be a first-round choice if he turned pro thanks to his lightning-quick release and tremendous shooting range.
But Curry also wants to get his degree, which would be difficult if he left early because Davidson does not conduct summer classes.
The deadline for players to declare for the NBA draft is Sunday, and Curry said he plans to hire an agent if he declares, which would preclude him from returning to the Wildcats.
The lightly recruited Curry burst onto the national scene in the 2008 NCAA tournament, when he averaged 28 points in leading the upstart Wildcats within a missed 3-pointer of the Final Four.
Curry moved to point guard last season had 15 games of 30 or more points and three of 40 or more. But Davidson fell short of reaching the NCAA tournament and lost in the second round of the NIT.
